largest celebrity hack ever

Tumult and commotion because, to get straight to the point, it seems that the largest hack ever has taken place in America. On Sunday evening, a hacker targeted 4Chan (a site where anyone can upload messages and photos) and posted hundreds of nude photos of major American celebrities. There are reportedly many more, but the list so far includes Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst, Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, and Kate Upton. Especially Jennifer Lawrence is hit hard; her photos are quite explicit and are images that you really, really do not want to share with the whole world.

How could this happen? The culprit seems to be iCloud, although Apple has still not provided an official response. When you take a photo with your iPhone, it is automatically added to your photostream linked to all your other Apple devices within seconds. Even if you delete the photo from your phone, it still remains in that stream. The story now is that someone hacked the iCloud accounts of all those celebrities and thus obtained the photos. It shouldn't be very difficult for a somewhat savvy hacker; your iCloud is protected by nothing more than a password and an email address. It seems to be related to the Find My iPhone feature, but how and what is unclear, especially since some of the photos date back years and years.

Lawrence's team has since confirmed that the photos are real and further states that any site that posts them can expect a trip to the courtroom. And rightly so, because this is a crazy invasion of their privacy. “To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves,” writes actress Mary E. Winstead on Twitter. And then, “Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked.”

And that is exactly what it is. Imagine, you send sexy photos back and forth a few years ago with your then (or current) partner, and then you wake up one morning and the WHOLE world has seen them too. I would be devastated. I really hope this doesn't have any repercussions and that the one responsible gets an endlessly long sentence.
