Your friend as a wheelbarrow
In Hollywood, there's nothing new about it: you choose your friends based on their popularity. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian started it all, then it was Paris and Nicole, Paris and Lindsey, Paris and actually everyone. Because your own fame is never enough and in the absence of your own talent or success, you might as well become friends with someone who does have an impressive career. Or, you both have a great career and choose each other to reach unprecedented heights together. Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift, Cara Delevigne and Jourdan Dunn and Stella McCartney and Gwyneth Paltrow. Anyone looking for a power friend (I hate the word ‘power’ but in English, this concept is called ‘power friending’ so forgive me) reads this and takes immediate action.
1. Add up her social reach.
It's important because if she posts a photo of you together on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook, it will also bring you new followers, and that is important for when you're done with this friend and looking for the next one.
2. Inventory her friends.
Because we prefer a friend group full of hotshots and other celebs. Even more virtual shoutouts and new friendships are on the horizon, and don't forget the many parties and red carpets.
3. Is she in a different profession?
That is actually preferable. Suppose you are very big in fashion and she is in music, then through that friendship, you suddenly become someone in both worlds, and that, that is what we want.
4. Does she have the same clothing size as you?
It makes sense to choose someone who is taller than you because that looks nice and slim, but don't be mistaken, someone with the same size means a double wardrobe. Count your gains.
5. Pay attention to her relationship status.
If you are both single, that's great because then you can go out and hunt for men. If she has a boyfriend and you don't, it's important that he A. is not too clingy and B. has many handsome single friends so that there can possibly be some matchmaking and you can later go on double dates. If you both have a boyfriend, you better make sure that the two men like each other a bit because you can bet they will have to get along well. 6. Avoid one-night stands.
But you could have thought of that yourself, of course.
Happy friend shopping! Just remember, you have just as close friendships as most Hollywood stars.
