COME FLY WITH ME
This is how you travel in style
Friday marks the start of our biennial circus aka Fashion Week or better said Fashion Month. On Friday, Peggy, Liesbeth, and I are flying to New York. Upon our return, we will be home for exactly one day and then it's off to London, Milan, and Paris. Jet will briefly hop over to Nice for a little trip with friends and then head to Ibiza to unwind at the Harbour Club there. With the Flying Blue Miles, everything is in order, in short.
Because not everything, but still a lot, especially in our crazy world, revolves around appearance, it's important to endure the flight as beautifully as possible. Through empirical research, I've gathered some nice tips for you.
Get on the plane with as little makeup as possible
Especially on long flights, it's nice for your skin to be clean. You can easily reapply a rich cream during the flight because the altitude takes quite a bit of moisture from your skin. What isn't on doesn't need to come off, and nothing is more awkward than having to wash your face in that size zero restroom. Compensate for that makeup-free face with Really Good Hair. Trust me, it helps. Just wake up half an hour earlier and blow-dry your hair well. Furthermore, I would recommend getting your eyelashes and eyebrows tinted beforehand so that you have some shape on your face.
Wear comfortable and nice clothes
I get it, a tracksuit is comfortable, but hey, you could also wear your pajamas. Not really attractive and, excuse me, a bit touristy. Just go for a nice pair of jeans with plenty of stretch that feels really good. Then wear layers so you can peel them off according to the temperature on board. I swear by a beautiful scarf that gives your outfit a boost but can also serve as a blanket or pillow later. Or you can drape it over your head so that the nice man next to you doesn't have to see that you also sleep with your mouth open.
On the plane, take off your shoes, make sure they are not too tight because it could very well be that when you arrive at, say, JFK, you no longer fit into them.
Hand luggage in a new style
All those small suitcases are nice and all, but they are not very convenient if you want to take something out. I recently traveled with Renate Gerschtanowitz, and she had a wonderful wicker bag with her. She carried a small wallet on a chain to keep her passport, ticket, and credit card, and that spacious wicker bag held her reading material, scarf, and other things for the journey together. It looks a lot nicer too.
Wine
If you leave after twelve, go to fishes at Schiphol. There, you order a plate of sushi and a glass of wine. That airplane food is, of course, an assault on everything, so this way you've already satisfied your hunger, and with that glass, you'll fall asleep during takeoff.
Upon descent: apply some makeup
As the landing is initiated, apply a little makeup. Brush your teeth in the restroom, run your hand through your hair, and bet that you will be the prettiest one getting off?
