‘A JOURNEY OF A DRESS’

This week Amayzine.com is a bit focused on Diane von Furstenberg and the 40th anniversary of her iconic wrap dress. May-Britt explained earlier this week what exactly makes this dress an icon and in Los Angeles the dress will be honored in the coming months with an exhibition titled; ‘Journey Of A Dress’.

The opening of this exhibition was celebrated with a big party, which once again emphasized the legend of the wrap dress. Because Diane has made quite a few friends over the years. In fact, everybody loves DvF. The woman and her designs.

It was the first time Rachel Zoe was seen in public again since the birth of her second son just before Christmas. “I had said that if I wasn’t in labor, I would be there.” The star stylist is all praise for Diane, whom she calls her good friend and mentor. “I am her biggest fan.”

Gwyneth Paltrow and hubby Chris Martin, who rarely appear together in public, also attended acte de presence. Gwyneth dressed in a wrap jumpsuit with a belly button neckline. Robin Wright appeared on the red carpet with the beautiful Dylan, her daughter with Sean Penn, and her brand new (and 14 years younger) fiancé Ben Foster. The Hilton family, Paris and her parents Kathy and Rick, were also present. Along with Demi Moore (sans toyboy), Ashley Olsen, Coco Rocha, Molly Sims, Uma Thurman, Marisa Tomei, Allison Williams, Rosario Dawson and as the cherry on the fashion cake Anna Wintour.

75% of the attending ladies was completely styled in a version of the wrap dress. We saw midi dresses, floor-length dresses and jumpsuits, sequins, animal prints, vintage and brand new. Everything passed by. And what the guests did not wear was on display in the gigantic setup of mannequins in DvF wrap dresses. A worthy celebration, which Diane herself seemed to enjoy immensely. Her A-list guests not less, as they sipped on the generously flowing Veuve Clicquot and browsed around in the undoubtedly envy-inducing gift lounge.

For those who will be in L.A. soon, the exhibition ‘Journey Of A Dress’ can be seen until March 2014 in the Wilshire May Company building.
