New section on Amayzine: the big fashion ABC, in 26 letters from A to Z up to date. Nothing more and nothing less. At the end of the ride, you will have a handy reference work with which you can impress, because we will not talk about concepts that everyone already knows, we will discuss those words that you might not know yet. So today we kick off with, indeed, the A. You wouldn't expect it!

This is one of those terms that I thought everyone knew, but when you ask in a store or something for a dress with an A-line, you get those big deer eyes that clearly have no idea what you're talking about. An A-line dress is, very simply, a dress in the shape of the letter A. The big advantage is that it is mega flattering, ideal for dinners because you can eat comfortably without bursting out of your tight dress. And also for people like me, who sometimes change clothing sizes (hello yo-yo effect), it comes in handy because it always fits.

And so not ‘albino’, as a certain unnamed editor first thought. An alpino is such a nice typical French hat, often depicted in comic strips worn in combination with a Breton stripe and a baguette under the arm. Characteristic is the small stem on top. The main difference with a beret is that the alpino is often a bit rounder and sits straighter on the head, instead of tilted.

Do you know those curtains that you often see in somewhat cheap beauty salons that still try to look very chic? A shiny fabric and then a lush floral print on it. That is ausbrenner. Or well, something with the look of ausbrenner, because often in that case the print is just stuck on. The dress of the lady above is probably made in a better way. In principle, ausbrenner works by means of a chemical process where certain parts of the fabric are burned away, leaving the pattern. What remains is a thin and delicate fabric with a luxurious appearance.
