HOW UGLIER HOW BETTER?

It is a phenomenon that I have sometimes worried about; the total hysteria and exaggeration with which some bloggers and fashion people dress themselves. The credo seems to be: just throw everything together and over each other and then you will look fashionable. Or something. Recently I saw a photo of Hanneli Mustaparta (exhibit A) where she is wearing a pretty nice outfit, with gold ankle boots underneath. Fine. If it weren't for the fact that she is wearing white sports socks in those boots and that they stick out about 10 centimeters above them. I see that and wonder, why?

Why white sports socks? It is a kind of strange trend that ugly things are now considered very fashionable. They call it normcore, a unisex trend that revolves around the most ordinary, boring, normal possible clothing. White sports socks, windbreakers, fleece sweaters, that kind of stuff. Fashion women like Hanelli then pimp that a bit with an item like golden boots but don't let yourself be fooled, they are still really white sports socks.

Jet and I also saw the ugly-is-hip trend in full glory during London Fashion Week last February. Exhibit B is wearing a kind of strange fur stole over a jacket with a pajama look and over that again a huge necklace.

With Exhibit C we are really going overboard. These guys were seriously posing the whole time and were even photographed from all sides.

Or Exhibit D then, pink-white checkered high socks, a black-white checked skirt, a shirt that looks like we can see her breasts and a fluorescent yellow fluffy coat. I am willing to accept a lot in the name of fashion and under the banner of ‘art’ but I just find this ugly.

Exhibit E, even more self-important male figures where the one on the left has a hairstyle that Johnny Bravo (do you remember him?) could still be jealous of.

Finally, exhibit F, and here we have really gone completely off planet earth. A wicker basket as a handbag, are you fucking kidding me?

Maybe serious fashion people are reading along and think that I am revealing myself as narrow-minded and small-minded, but so be it. Normcore, white sports socks in your boots, socks in sandals at all, BIRKENSTOCKS, I do not understand how it has happened that very hip, attractive, well-dressed women suddenly come up with this. Now who’s with me?
