Go Frow #6
GET INSPIRED AND GET IT
Anyone who watches Derek Lam's show will, I think, immediately say “jeeeezus how beautiful.” At least, that was what I had to say about it. Style.com also wrote, “clothes you want to wear. That shouldn’t be a novelty at a fashion show, yet somehow it is.” And indeed, many shows still want to be somewhat conceptual and complicated, but with Derek Lam, it’s none of that. The first looks that came up on the runway consist of blocks, tea towel blocks if you will, but then beautiful. And, he regularly reappears; the turban, also with blocks. Besides neutral colors like white, black, gray, and denim, there is also room for a splash of color (yellow!) and alongside robust-looking fabrics, we also see plenty of tulle, mesh, and silk. Trench coats are alternated with smart trousers high at the waist, balloon dresses precede strapless floor-length dresses that are so beautiful in their simplicity that it almost moves us, and if it’s up to Derek Lam, the wide belt at the waist is completely the way to go again. I say: yes please.
