Grammy Glamour
What a pleasure it must have been to sit here in the hall. The 56th Grammy Awards ceremony last night was accompanied by a truly spectacular show where a significant piece of pop history was written. The most insane duos provided masterful performances. Mr. and Mrs. Carter took the stage together. An enviable love game between Beyoncé – who is thinner than ever – and her husband, sharply dressed in a tuxedo. How cozy those two must be at home.
Then there were the silent men of Daft Punk who Get Lucky performed live with, among others, Stevie Wonder. Big winners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed together with Madonna and Queen Latifah for wedding singers by singing the song Same Love while 34 same-sex couples in the hall exchanged vows. Robin Thicke performed with Chicago, Sara Bareilles with Carol King, and the remaining band members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, played together, while Yoko Ono was in the hall swinging.
And we haven't even mentioned the flames of Katy Perry and Metallica, the Cirque du Soleil act by Pink, and a headbanging Taylor Swift behind the piano. It was non-stop.
All of this was, of course, preceded by a delightful fashion parade on the red carpet. And that is always interesting at the Grammys, because the outfits here are a lot bolder than at the Globes or Oscars. Madonna, along with her adopted son David Banda, stole the show in matching Ralph Lauren costumes, and there were whole hordes of rock ‘n roll royalty like Stevie Nicks, Ozzy Osbourne, and Steven Tyler passing by in similar ensembles.
But despite everyone doing their own thing at the Grammys, there were certainly a number of clear red carpet trends to detect;
- Metallics. Among others, Taylor Swift (by the way, we think she was best dressed), Rita Ora, Ciara, Amber Rose, and Chrissy Teigen appeared in literally stunning evening gowns in silver or gold metallic shine.
- No underwear dress. The no underwear dress (dresses with large transparent pieces in places where normally underwear would be visible) has made a slow rise in Hollywood. Initially, pioneers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Selita Banks were talked about in scandalous terms, but this award season we see more and more A-listers going for a killer bod for it. On Sunday, among others, Beyoncé and Paris Hilton chose designs for which they had to fully go commando style on the red carpet.
- Open heart surgery dress. The open heart surgery dress, or the navel neckline, is a trend that always comes and goes. However, unfortunately, there are only a few who can really pull off this style.
