In a hundred years, we have seen quite a few different hairstyles come and go. And all those different hair styles often come back like a boomerang. At parties, on the catwalk: everyone gets inspired. In this video, all those hairstyles are summarized, from the classic updo of the thirties to the waves of the nineties. And what do we do? We show that those hairstyles are definitely not outdated, but that you can just wear them this autumn.
In 1910, long hair was neatly tucked away with the most beautiful jewelry pins or hairbands. Especially the loose curl and the braid were characteristic for keeping hair out of the face. You still see that today, at shows like Creatures and Mark Fast, where hair is loosely braided and some strands are allowed to hang down. Little works of art in themselves.
The bob makes its appearance in 1920. A loose curl was added, which you still see today at Alice Olivia and Incontri. The curl is mainly at the bottom of the hair. The roots are mostly powdered to keep everything nice and high and voluminous. They surely used a brush for that back then.
The curl from the twenties remains, but is a bit neater, also known as the water wave. It is no longer combed out, but the result of the rollers remains. With a good shine spray on top, the gloss is nicely preserved.
Especially Antiono Marras and Zac Posen have been inspired by the 40s. All those rolls on the head, also known as victory rolls, are tightly in place and remain very neat. You don't have to worry about your look for the evening, because it won't shift.
Forget those tight curls from the forties, they can now be let loose. Chisato knows how to translate that look to the present. Long hair is tucked away with a loose curl.
The sixties is the time of the hippies. And they especially loved a lot of freedom, so that had to be reflected in their hair. Loose, but also a bit lifted. Gaultier and Nina Ricci show in their shows that this can also be sophisticated chic.
That is probably the look of now, but you will read about it later, coming from the seventies. Loose hair, airy and especially very natural.
When you think of punk, you think of the eighties and Vivienne Westwood, right? So yes, you still see that in her shows. Lots of it and nice and wild. And do you remember the waffle iron? That's fine too, if you want to make it a bit more extreme.
In the nineties, the waffle iron was still in many bathrooms, but the punky look had totally faded. It was sleek and shiny hair, which should not have too much volume. It had to hang as flat as possible. Now it looks a bit more natural, but straight hair is definitely allowed. And that waffle iron has fortunately been left out of this look.
Not so long ago, and that's why we are still stuck in sleek locks. A bit rocky with a bit of wet look. Especially Dior and Gaultier are masters in creating those sleek hairdos.
What we see now? The beachy look of course. As if we have been lying on the beach all day, diving into the sea and parading with that somewhat messy hair on the boulevard. It doesn't have to be neat, it can be a bit messier. It should especially be very natural, just like at Burberry, Isabel Marant, and Blumarine.
