PHARRELL WILLIAMS IS JUST A HUMAN
Okay, first play Pharrell Williams with the song Happy . Volume up. Whenever I hear this song, I immediately think of the launch video of amayzine.com and the adventure that began then. But I also always feel like dancing or sitting in the front of a cargo bike and cycling through the city in love (he's riding). By the way, I always have the impression that the word ‘pneumothorax’ is sung in the chorus. But that's beside the point.
Yesterday, Pharrell visited Oprah. She showed him a video where you could see how many people around the world were dancing to ‘Happy’ and often made their own, touching version.
Pharrell broke down. And not just a little. TEARS WITH BUCKETS. Dear Pharrell, I cried along with you. It was so beautiful. And the idea that millions of people listen to you, dance to your music, feel inspired by you, must be overwhelming.
You see Pharrell crying with happiness, but I can also imagine that it must be quite frightening for him. The impact. The fame. At first glance, you might think that famous, handsome, and rich people must have the best life of anyone. No money worries, a closet full of the finest clothes, dining in the best restaurants, fans. I think we are quite mistaken about that. Besides a glamorous existence, it seems to me also damn busy. Busy in your life and busy in your head. (I could barely get my performance at RTL Boulevard out of my head). Everyone is watching, everyone has an opinion about you. You can never again unnoticed and/or undisturbed put your trash outside in your slippers early in the morning, secretly stand on the street kissing a new lover, or read a newspaper on the terrace on Sunday morning with wet hair and no makeup.
Back to Pharrell (whom I am now in love with, because oh my, how nice it is when a man dares to show his emotions). He finds it overwhelming that so many people believe in him, trust him, and that he causes happiness worldwide with this song, but you can also see and feel that it all might be a bit much for him. Moreover, he has become public property.
Respect Pharrell, I would never want to and could not trade places with you, but you make me incredibly happy.
