SATURDAY EVENING HAIR
Hairstylist Rachel Geerman has just returned from Milan and Paris where she styled the hair for major shows such as Viktor&Rolf, Gucci, Valentino, and Pucci. Now that she has recovered a bit from the hustle and bustle, Rachel and her colleagues Adriana and Estella are teaching us how to create that catwalk look ourselves. For me, Adriana chose the understated sultry hair that you often see at the shows of Dolce&Gabbana and Valentino.
Step 1
Brush your hair well and create a sharp middle parting. Since my hair is not long enough for the look, Adriana attaches a strand of ‘borrowed hair’ to my hair. Definitely worth the investment. I always find the hairpieces from Balmain very nice because they have very user-friendly clips and they are quite affordable.
Step 2
Backcomb the top of your hair in different sections. The Mason Pearson brush works best for this. Use a medium strong hairspray to hold the backcombing in place.
Step 3
Lightly brush out the backcombing and tie the hair together in a tight, low ponytail.
Step 4
Divide the ponytail into two sections and make a tight braid from each section. When braiding, it is important that all strands are exactly the same thickness and well brushed through. That really helps. Use a small, inconspicuous elastic at the bottom of the braid in the color of your hair.
Step 5
Pin the braids along the sides of the head and secure them at the top. With a U-pin (a wider hairpin), secure the braid to the hair at the top of the head. Try to drape the braids a bit over each other so that you don't see the elastics.
Step 6
Check the entire hairstyle well and use bobby pins to tame any rebellious hairs.
Step 7.
Finish with plenty of hairspray to ensure it stays in place.
Pretty easy when you look at it this way. Still not convinced of your skills? Then make an appointment at The Building in Amsterdam and ask Adriana, Estella, or Rachel if they can show you one more time.
Where's the party? There’s the party!
