Hermès Silkball in Amsterdam

About a week ago, a large envelope came through the mailbox containing a brightly colored mask; it was an invitation to the Hermès Silkball. Look, that's nice, that's really nice. The dress code mentioned masks, feathers, adornments, imaginative makeup – in short, you knew it was going to be grand. After quite a bit of outfit stress and especially mask stress, everything came together yesterday and we went dressed in a gown and high heels to the back of Amsterdam Central, because that's where we had to gather. The location of the ball was a secret, and the only thing we knew was that we had to report at the ferry behind the station and that we would be taken to the location from there.

It was polder glamour at its finest and best: in your gala dress on a windy ferry over a pitch-dark IJ. After a short ride, we arrive at the Undercurrent, a well-known location in Amsterdam where ADE was bursting at the seams just last week. Once we arrived there, we entered the Hermès world, with the famous carres as decoration on the walls. The entrance is a mirrored maze (of course we took 10,000 selfies , you get it, I get it) and those who made it through the maze end up on the dance floor where the DJ is playing the absolute best music. Old hits, nice house, sometimes a bit of seventies, it's quite a strange mix but one that works. And, just a sentence especially for Jet, because she danced the whole evening on 10-centimeter heels for the first time and I, as a heel-weary person, am incredibly proud.

On the guest list were all the cool kids of Amsterdam who, by the way, have all been featured in our Look of the Day, such as Linda Tol, Jamie Li, Sophia Tienstra, Imaan Withfield, Florian van Zuilen and Coco Padding. Handsome boys and girls from Models at Work are walking around in the most extraordinary creations, and instead of having to push your way to the bar, waiters are walking around with trays of cocktails. Outside in the wind, we are smoking cigarettes and gallant men are draping their jackets over our shoulders to keep us warm, it was truly a ball from start to finish.

We take the second-to-last ferry back to the city and ride home on our bikes with headpieces and masks, arriving at the office the next day tired but very satisfied. These kinds of parties are truly the cherries on the cake, the parties you keep talking about for a long time and hope there will be another one soon. Dear Hermès, thank you for having us.
