How to wear flats

(at Christmas…)

I prefer a red-soled 10 centimeter heel that separates me from the ground. But at Christmas, despite it being the days when you have to pull out everything, EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING from the closet, a flat shoe is quite comfortable. You walk a bit, you sit a bit in front of a fireplace and shuffle back and forth from kitchen to table. Because each outfit calls for a different ‘with-or-without-heel’, I give you some unsolicited but well-meaning advice.

The mini

There's a good chance you have a lovely little LBD hanging ready. Or that cute flared, short skirt that you combine with a nice blouse and style off with a cute belt. That slightly looser fitting dress from Michael Kors is also a perfect easy-to-wear yet stylish Christmas dress.

Choose a shoe that is low enough to end below the ankle. That gives your leg length and makes you look tall even though you're not wearing heels.

 The maxi

Watch out. With the maxi dress, a shoe with a closed toe is forbidden. Yes, forbidden. You could wear a Roland Mouret or Tom Ford dress a hundred times, but with a closed toe shoe, it looks like you're singing in the choir and never read a fashion magazine. So go for an open toe. I think a sandal with a little fun detail is nice with such an official dress.

 The mid calf skirt

This is a very difficult and life-threatening length because it often covers the prettiest parts and emphasizes the ugliest (the calves). But if you can pull it off, then you have a very fashionable outfit. A sandal with a strap around your ankle emphasizes the slender part of your leg and since that's one of the few parts of your leg you can show, you should make it work for you.

You probably noticed that boyfriend jeans are a real trend. But seriously: the best boyfriends you can find are really with your boyfriend.

I really wish you a Christmas where you can appear in boyfriend style. Then with a nice top (a bit of sparkle please) and a designer bag over the shoulder for the necessary glam. For shoes, keep the boyfriend theme and choose a model inspired by men's shoes. This one from Dolce & Gabbana has some glitter, which I find quite cozy.

 Merry, cosy and comfy Christmas
