For you, Holland's Next Topmodel starts Monday evening. The Endemol team has been busy with it for at least half a year. I really joined in June. After some exploratory phone calls (Fred: “May, you have to come!” and Anouk: “You are the missing link”) and a screen test, it was a Friday morning in June when we would really meet each other.

The Endemol building is so enormous that it almost pushes the Arena next to it aside. Just at the moment I think it’s impersonal, I see executive producer Femke and editor Riena standing by the revolving door. Smoking a cigarette in the morning sun. I am greeted with a ‘Hey, May!”, three sincere kisses, and Femke immediately goes inside to get me a fresh latte. Who says the TV world is tough and superficial?.
“COCO CHANEL? SHE IS DEAD, RIGHT?”
For the first meeting, the Gooische Vrouwen room is booked. There are scones (which we all don’t eat because hey, nothing makes you gain weight like a camera. Dirk Kikstra, Anouk Smulders, and Fred van Leer see the photos of the girls, hear why the wild card selection was so incredibly good (thanks to Daelorian who signed a contract with Future Faces last year as a wild card girl. And when I quote candidate Bo who last season answered the question: ‘Who is Coco Chanel?” with; ”Isn’t she dead?” I spill that delicious latte over my skinny jeans out of relived shock.

Fortunately, everyone is so animatedly talking that, in my opinion, no one notices, and the meeting lasts so long that the spot is long dried up by the time we say goodbye. With my Macbook Air against my thigh to mask the stain, I leave the building. God, I’m so excited about it.
