Oh Anna, what now?

The fashion world is facing a huge problem. What's happening? Well. The hotels in Milan and Paris where the fashion posse loves to reside, le Meurice and the Principe di Savoia, have come under the control of the sultan of Brunei.

Rich but wrong

That sultan has a lot of money (you suspected that) and is, to put it mildly, not a fan of the phenomena of adultery and homosexuality. Let’s just say the fashion crowd is quite into that. I mean, committing adultery won’t be shouted from the rooftops, but where would our world be without Karl Lagerfeld, Hedi Slimane, and Haider Ackermann? I mean, who isn’t gay in the modeling world?

Powerful fashion people in revolt

To give Mr. Sultan a good earful, Brian Atwood, Francois-Henri Pinault (the man of Selma Hayek and the CEO of Gucci, Stella McCartney, and Alexander McQueen) have decided to boycott these hotels. Saint Laurent also expressed via social media that the laws of Brunei have no place in civilized society.

“While I am sensitive to the potential impact that this issue may have on the wonderful staff at le Meurice, I cannot in all good conscience stay there, nor can Vogue’s editors.”

Anna doesn’t want to either

Anna Wintour, who loved to settle with her fashion legion at le Meurice, has said that “While I am sensitive to the potential impact that this issue may have on the wonderful staff at le Meurice, I cannot in all good conscience stay there, nor can Vogue’s editors.”

The clubhouse of fashion week

Le Meurice provided shelter to just about everyone who means something in fashion. Go there during Fashion Week and you might spot Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Mario Testino, Alber Elbaz, and a slew of top models. The Principe di Savoia is a beloved hotel often visited by fashion editors. Especially the hotel bar is the clubhouse of Milan Fashion Week.

Couchsurfing, anyone?

Where the fashion posse is supposed to sleep during the couture spectacle and later the prêt-à-porter weeks is a big problem. The Ritz and le Crillon are closed for a thorough renovation. I would like to ask the builders to speed things up so that there is a fresh hangout for Anna and the gang in September. Otherwise, couchsurfing might be an option?
