How do you recognize a model girl?
Just as birdwatchers know that a yellow feather on the right wing indicates an Asian Golden Plover and that a gray feather on the left wing indicates a Eurasian Dotterel, I know exactly that when we see a Céline triobag in combination with Stan Smith's we are dealing with A Fashion Girl. I say, everyone has their own field.
The big fashion month has begun and this month the fashion press from New York travels via London to Milan to end in Paris. Hundreds of endlessly well-dressed women go from show to showroom and back as if it were a school trip. Even those who do not have invitations for the shows can greatly indulge in their fashion cravings because the biggest catwalk of all is still: the street. Therefore, here is a handy checklist to ensure that you are indeed face to face with A Fashion Girl.
1. She has a phone in her hands
Always and no matter what because there is always a shoe that needs to be posted on Instagram or an important email with show invites that needs to be answered. Fashion girls have an iPhone or a Blackberry and in the first case, you are probably dealing with a blogger or editor and in the latter case with a buyer or editor-in-chief. Devices running Android are rarely seen with Fashion Girls. Exception: they don't have it in their hand but at their ear because when they are not emailing or Instagramming, they are always on the phone.
2. She looks at the ground
If she is not looking at her phone screen, she has her gaze directed at the ground. Or at her shoes. Fashion girls have no time to admire the beautiful architecture around them, they walk in a straight line to their destination. The only exception we find here is when A Fashion Girl is in a store, then the neck of A Fashion Girl suddenly becomes a lot more flexible.
3. You don't understand her clothes
Or at least not at first glance. Fashion girls often wear many clothing items that do not seem to match at first. Colors may clash, prints can clash, and official rules are completely ignored. Case in point: Leandra Medine. The other extreme is A Fashion Girl who is completely dressed in black, gray, white, or another dull color. What is hard to understand here is why this girl is considered so stylish by other girls. Case in point: Emmanuele Alt.
4. Fashion girls are never alone
They almost always operate with Another Fashion Girl by their side. That can be a colleague, a friend, or a stranger they met three streets back and are now best friends with. Together, the photo is even more beautiful.
5. Fashion girls are always angry or just not
Because they are in a hurry, are always being bothered by all those street style photographers, and the fact that they have spent 4 weeks on their outfit is really not to provoke a photo. Fashion girls are therefore often irritated to angry. Shows run late, they haven't had their non-fat soy latte yet, and there is never a taxi to be found when they need one. The other extreme, however, is that fashion girls are always cheerful, we mention an Anna Della Russo. They love the camera and always walk exuberantly dancing down the street. There is no middle ground.
Have you spotted one? Don't ask for a photo, Fashion Girls find that annoying because then they are even later. Stand silently watching the spectacle and let them continue as much as possible in their own nature. And look, they seem even more like the Eurasian Dotterel and Asian Golden Plover than you would have thought.
