jason wu meets hugo boss

Jet (dressed in Boss) and I (mentally dressed in Boss) found ourselves in the gorgeous Hugo Boss store on the P.C.Hooftstraat in Amsterdam, fondling a very special collection. A limited womenswear collection for Hugo Boss, by Jason Wu who is since recently the artistic director for the women’s collection.

It might seem impossible to imagine now, but there was a time when not everyone knew who Jason Wu was. His career catapulted to new heights when he dressed the First Lady Michelle Obama for the first inauguration ball of President Barack Obama in 2009. The white dress with asymmetric neckline was a worldwide success and from that moment, Jason Wu was everywhere.

Now he can add another notch to his belt. The perfect chance to show that he is a very versatile designer, and a great chance for Hugo Boss to bring their women’s collection up to the same heights as their men’s collection. Not that there is much wrong with it, but the women’s collection has not yet enjoyed quite the same status as the men’s. Wu had this to say about the subject in an interview with W Magazine“The made-to-measure stuff they do for men is out of this world. But they weren’t bringing any of that over to women’s.” And that is his mission, the Hugo Boss women’s suits will get a softer edge. Well cut clothing of outstanding quality but with a little more print, colour and that something extra.

All of fashion loving Amsterdam popped by the store to celebrate, enjoyed a glass of champagne and strolled through the shop admiring all the beauty. We both fell hard for a tough but extremely sexy looking leather boot; I can totally see myself conquering the world in them. Wu’s mission is a success: the strong business and beautifully crafted elements from the men’s suits, in a feminine, sexy and equally strong women’s design.
