Cartier Watch

In the category of ‘iconic’, the Tank from Cartier certainly deserves all the praise and accolades.

The watch, which breathes class and style and is worn by both Queen Máxima and myself, has quite a sad history. It was designed by Louis Cartier for French soldiers during World War I. A wristwatch, because that is what it is, did not easily slip off the wrist and for the men, for reasons I honestly do not fully understand, it was very important to know the time.

Anyway. The men who survived the war were allowed to take the watch home, and therefore it became a symbol of heroism and strength. Et voilà. I myself refused every watch for years and used my iPhone as a watch until that lovely Saturday in December when my beloved crowned me with a brand new Tank around my wrist.
