DO THE BEYONCÉ
If yesterday was Blue Monday, then today is definitely Trouble Tuesday. Yesterday, everyone was doing their best to fight off the depression and only cheerful songs were played on the radio, today is just as gray as yesterday, the money is still gone, and my scooter is also broken.
On days like this, there is one person who makes me happy and that is Beyoncé. Beyoncé, my heroine. When I'm at a party with my friends and the music is boring, we always say to each other: ‘I feel like a little Beyoncé right now.’
Beyoncé and I have the same shopping rhythm. Recently, I surfed to net-a-porter.com and there I saw them; Nikes, completely in gold. Per-fect. I was lucky that I immediately put them in my shopping cart and checked out, because an hour later they were sold out. And there was Beyoncé Knowles, she had been just as quick as I was. Pretty cool.
When I'm having a bit of a down day, her documentary Life is but a dream gets me back on track. I sometimes wish I were a Beyoncé. Becoming a Knowles is obviously not going to happen, and I have to be honest, I don't necessarily need Jay Z with it.
To get a little closer, I’ll give a few tips.
How to be a Beyoncé
- Think of an alter ego for yourself. Beyoncé had Sasha Fierce and now has Yoncé. When she is on stage, she doesn't perform as herself, but as her ‘friend’. Then you are a lot less nervous or shy. If you're shy, you don't know what to say or what to wear. Step into your alter ego. B does it. And it works.
- Support a good cause. Knowles has donated the entire proceeds from her song I was here to a World Humanitarian Day campaign. Now I really understand that you can't give as much money as she does, but every little bit helps. And by the way, it doesn't always have to be money. A smile, holding a door open for someone, or a few coins to a homeless person. Beyoncé wants us all to be a little kinder to each other.
- Don't be afraid of your curves. It's true that B follows a diet here and there and she sweats and trains like crazy, but those buttocks? They stay. And those legs? They will never disappear.
- Dare to go natural. No makeup. Then you are still really beautiful. Okay fine, do ask a hairdresser for ‘done’ hair for a consciously makeup-less statement instead of the just-out-of-bed look.
- Women on top and friends above all. Beyoncé says she still loves Jay-Z so much but that nothing beats a really good conversation with another woman who understands exactly how you feel. This brings us to the very best recipe to fight this gray, mousey, drizzly day. My friends are calling to collectively go for cocktails. Dammit, almost forgot that I am on the destination detox .... Herbal tea then?
