One liter of red wine, two cinnamon sticks, two teaspoons of whole cloves, orange peel, lemon peel, four tablespoons of cane sugar. Put all the ingredients (except the sugar) in a large pot and heat on low. It should not boil. Let it warm up for about 20 minutes. Then add the sugar. Start with two tablespoons and taste if you find it sweet enough, otherwise add more. Guess what this is? Exactly, mulled wine. I find nothing more delightful than to drink a glass of this warm winter wine on a Sunday somewhere outside on a terrace, it can also be inside a café of course or somewhere at a (Christmas) market. Or I make a huge pot myself. It is really so easy and so festive. Be careful, after a few glasses you are (well, at least I am) completely drunk.

If you don't feel like diving behind the stove and would rather have this drink served, I’ll give you a few nice places for a delicious glass of mulled wine.

Café de Prins
A small café opposite the Anne Frank House that is in all the guides about Amsterdam, so this eatery is always full of tourists. I also find it nice and cozy to hear some other languages around me. If you are there, order the cheese fondue, seriously the best in the city. The chairs and tables from the terrace are of course stored in the basement, but there is still a small seating area by the window. Take a fleece blanket, a glass of mulled wine and you have a view of the Westertoren and the most beautiful canals of Amsterdam.

Tijn Akersloot
I actually like the beach in the Netherlands more in winter than in summer, especially beach tent Tijn Akersloot in Zandvoort. First, a little walk along the beach. Not too long, because I always want to quickly relax on a bench with a glass of wine or hot chocolate. Now they also have mulled wine on the menu, so I would immediately choose that. They also have incredibly delicious wood-fired pizzas.

Restaurant Fier
A nice restaurant in the Baarsjes, it is always pleasantly busy and the place is run by two nice young guys. Good fries, tasty burgers, and large salads. It is a café-restaurant, but everything is just a bit tastier and when I get the bill, I often get a smile, because the damage is always quite reasonable. Also a very good place for a Friday afternoon drink and there are also a few spots to sit outside with a glass of mulled wine.
