Many girlfriends have had their ticket in hand for months in advance. The outfits are ready and the Vans and All Stars are ready to get completely dirty. The festival season has begun.
You immediately recognize the people who are on their way to such a party. The girls wear shorts, crop tops, or maxi dresses. Hat on, headband in the hair, a lot of armcandy on the wrist and let’s go. If you’re smart, you sneak a plastic bottle inside that you can keep refilling with water.
Do you already have your ticket or do you still need to choose something you like? You have to be quick, because it always sells out fast. And if a festival is sold out, the site ticketswap is a good place to still snag one.
The Netherlands is a small country, but when it comes to parties, we are quite big. These are a few of my favorite festivals. And it’s not just about music.
Thuishaven - Amsterdam Dock 2013
Every Sunday, weather permitting.
The weather forecasts are monitored all week, and if the sun shines, there’s a mini-festival. The lineup is always kept secret until the doors open.
Appelsap - Oosterpark
A party where you can’t expect techno. Lots of hip-hop in Oosterpark in Amsterdam. No hard beats and laser beams, but this is a day to really let loose with your hips. R&B, soul, that’s where you need to be. De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig will also sing a tune, and I can tell you, they always throw a big party.
LowLands - Biddinghuizen
You set up your tent and prepare for three days of partying. Don’t expect to be able to chill and shower every morning, but that’s part of it. Tip: Take that shower right when you get back to your tent, say around seven in the morning, then it’s super quiet.
Valtifest - NDSM terrain
This is actually the closing event for the festival season. And with this party, it’s a huge blast, I can tell you. There’s a theme, and if you think about not adhering to it, you’ll definitely stand out. This year it’s ‘seven sins’: Greed, Sloth, Lust, Vanity, Jealousy, Revenge, and Gluttony. Well, go wild!
Not to dance, but I have to share this with you too.
Pluk de Nacht film festival, Amsterdam
August 6 to 16, 2014. I’ll be there, will you?
You have to be there and reserve a beach chair in advance. No, you’re not just going to lie there and get a tan, but watch a movie outdoors. You can bring your own bottle of wine or popcorn. Incredibly romantic and therefore also a perfect place to date.
De parade
A traveling theater festival. It will be in Amsterdam for the last two weeks. For the Amsterdammers, it’s also very nice to go there for a few hours after work. But you don’t necessarily have to watch a play or music performance; there are also plenty of food stalls, you can bake your own poffertjes or dance in the silent disco.
Bacchus wine festival
You do me a great favor with wine. So especially with a wine festival. The best restaurants from Amsterdam are there with a tent. Cheese from Kef, Renzo’s, Wood pizzas. And a lot of wine, of course. See you there?
