I know Odette a little. She often came to eat at Café Restaurant Amsterdam when I still worked there. I see that she has drawn inspiration for her own Buffet van Odette. And she's right. A sticky toffee cake should be on every menu.

At Buffet van Odette you can have lunch and dinner. In the afternoon, for example, there is an omelet with truffle cheese, raisin bread with aged cheese, quiche, or a salad from the buffet. Then you get a plate full of goodies. Lentils, hummus, mackerel salad, and bread from Hartog. But from five o'clock there is also a delicious dinner menu.
I start at the beginning. Liesbeth and I had been planning a dinner for weeks. Somewhere outside, lots of food with wine, a thousand chats, and cigarettes were our requirements (very dirty, I know. And I’m quite into the healthy being and such, so even sillier).
Buffet van Odette has one of the most beautiful terraces in Amsterdam. You sit on the Prinsengracht, under a little awning when the sun shines too brightly, and in the evening the heaters turn on, so you can sit there endlessly. Many people pass by on bikes and walking, so there is a lot to see (I love that).
The menu. Very clear. Five starters, five main courses, and five desserts.
We had eaten here once before for Liesbeth's birthday, so we recognized the wine from the last time. A delicious Picpoul de Pinet. Not too heavy, nice and fresh, and you can drink it all evening long (phew, I’ve experienced that).

We ordered artichoke and charcuterie to share. All dishes come from a small kitchen, the products are as organic as possible, and the service is young and hip Amsterdam.
For the main course, we got a (fairly) young chicken with roseval potatoes and asparagus with salmon and a poached egg. So delicious you could lick your fingers.
We saved enough room for the sticky toffee cake. Batter of dates, butter, and sugar topped with a splash of caramel sauce. Also really a dessert to share, because it is quite rich, and I’m afraid you definitely have to run 70 laps on the Prinsengracht to burn it off. But come on, it was Friday, so weekend, everything is allowed.

I’ll give you here a recipe for this irresistible dessert. I can't imagine anyone not liking this. By the way, even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
And otherwise, go eat at Buffet van Odette sometime. Will you let me know what you thought?
