In the past, I used to play ‘Mama’ by the Spice Girls. Then I had been a troublesome teenager again. Or the song ‘Mommy’ by Sela Sue, such a nice one to show that you are so happy with your mom.

Do you also sometimes sit with friends praising your mother to the skies? And feel a bit ashamed that you have sometimes been a nuisance or a whiner? Well, I certainly have. Good, now we are fortunately talking about years ago.

So I really have the sweetest mother in the world. She has an endless listening ear, sometimes surprises me with fresh flowers in my house, occasionally puts a sweet card in my mailbox, laughs hard at my jokes, and she cooks like a dream. A good reason to give my mother a whole day of attention. Instead of the other way around. Just because she is the sweetest.

I’ll give you some ideas to do together with your mother. Fun for her and fun for you. Here they come:

– A day at the spa. Book a massage, bubble in the hot tub, take a sauna, and end with fresh mint tea and a magazine. Spa Zuiver, the Zwaluwhoeve and Thermen Bussloo are wonderful wellness resorts.

– I am deeply ashamed, but I have not yet been to the Stedelijk or Rijksmuseum. A very good reason to take your mother there.

– A pedicure at the Zeepbehandeling winkel. Now that summer is almost here, that works out perfectly. And if you’re lucky, you can sit next to each other (and chat) during the treatment.

– It’s a bit gray outside, go to the cinema together. The movie Soof seems to me a lovely mother-daughter film. Or the movie Weekend in Paris.

– Take her to the Skins Cosmetics to pick out something nice. You can also get your makeup done or do the ‘Nose’ test (for free). That way you can find out what her favorite scent is.

– A high tea. There are many hotels that organize this on this Sunday.

– If you live in Amsterdam, there is a very nice restaurant called Moeders (how could it be otherwise). After eating, you can take a photo together with your mom and put it on the polaroid wall. Fun or not?

– Offer to help her clean out her wardrobe together. Maybe you’ll come across some nice things that you can take for yourself and what’s really left over, to the thrift store.

– Does your mother have a green thumb? Then you can pick out plants at a garden center for her balcony or garden.

Well, now you can get started, right? Oh yes, a bouquet of flowers and a sweet card is always a hit. But that goes without saying.
