LAST SEASON IS HIP
The life of a model is short. At least, her career. However, some models continue to work after 50. Or 60. Or… American actress slash former model slash photographer Jessica Lange (64) is the face of the new Marc Jacobs beauty campaign, and so it's time for a top-6 of models over… Just because lists are fun:
- Kristen McMenamy (47). Androgynous something of late? No way, Kristen was one of the first androgynous models in the 80s. By the way, did you know that Naomi Campbell was her bridesmaid and Karl Lagerfeld gave her away? Kristen is fashion all the way.
- Iman (58). After studying political science in Egypt, she felt it was time for a new challenge. She moved to America in 1975, became a model (her very first assignment was a year later for Vogue US) and the rest is history. Nowadays she has a beauty empire and still does modeling work.
- Lauren Hutton (70) has appeared on the cover of Vogue US 26 times and at 61 she posed nude for Big magazine because she believed women should not be ashamed of their bodies. She is also the eternal bachelorette; at seventy she has never been married.
- Carmen Dell’Orefice (82) was already on the cover of US Vogue at 15, where she earned $7.50 per hour at the time. She was so thin that she received hormone injections, curvy and posed in lingerie for catalogs for $300 per hour.
- Daphne Selfe (85) has worked as a model her entire life. At seventy she got a contract with Models 1 and last year she did the Dolce & Gabbana campaign.
- China Machado (86). Her first modeling jobs were for Givenchy and Balenciaga. She quickly earned $1000 per week and was good friends with Richard Avedon and Diana Vreeland. Last year she did the Cole Haan campaign and she is officially the oldest model in the world.
