The rumor has been buzzing through the media for months, but although many thought it was a ‘tall tale’, it now seems suspiciously true; Lena Dunham is coming to the cover of Vogue US.
The creator and lead actress of the hit series Girls will grace the cover of the February issue of the most prestigious fashion magazine in the world, sources confirmed to the Daily Mail. However, spokespeople for Vogue itself refuse to comment on the rumor. Whether it is really true will only be certain on January 22 when the new issue lands on the doormat, but that Anna Wintour is a big supporter of Girls is certainly a fact. The infamous editor-in-chief was present on Monday evening with her daughter Bee at the season premiere of Girls in New York. Anna posed extensively with Lena on the red carpet and gave Alison Williams (Marni) a big hug upon arrival. Definitive proof that the HBO series has ‘her Anna's’ approval.
Nevertheless, the choice for Lena Dunham (27), who does not have the best hairstyle of all time, has tattoos and certainly wears size 40, to say the least, would be remarkable. Her unpolished, far from perfect appearance may be a big part of the success of her TV series, but it is certainly not the image we normally see on the cover of the ultimate style and fashion bible. Only a handful of ‘full-figured’ ladies have ever made the cover, with Adele being the most recent.
Around October, the first rumors about Lena and Vogue surfaced when Anna Wintour supposedly organized a dinner for her to persuade her to participate in a cover shoot. With Lena Dunham, Vogue would like to appeal to a younger audience. Other clue is that all the other ‘girls’ have already been seen on a number of magazine covers, but Lena has been absent everywhere until now. Perhaps because she has exclusively promised herself to Mme. Wintour?
