Saar Koningsberger, actress and presenter, you probably still know from TMF. I thought she was the coolest VJ back then. A little later I saw her as a real survivor in Expeditie Robinson.
During our interview, the doorbell rang, a package with new Nike sneakers was delivered. Saar is sponsored by Nike. She didn't see it, as I was speaking to her on the phone, but at that moment I saw the shoe of jealousy. Today she shares her favorite spots with us.
The weather is a bit nasty now, but what do you wear on a beautiful summer day?
‘It depends on what I'm going to do that day, but I’m a big fan of shorts with a blouse. And I also like a long airy skirt. I love to tuck my t-shirt in somewhere.’
And where do you like to sit in the sun?
‘I prefer to go to my mother. She has a fantastic garden to lie in the sun. In Amsterdam, I find Marie Heinekenplein a nice place, because there is sun all day. Fuel on Marnixstraat also has a terrace where I like to go.’
And what’s in your glass?
‘I love a glass of wine, but it goes to my head quite quickly in warm weather. Just give me an Amaretto sour. As a non-alcoholic drink, I often take Ginger Ale with mint and cucumber.’
Such an Amaretto sour, what’s in it and where do you drink the best one?
‘Izakaya has a really good one. You can also sit outside at a nice table. They don’t have it on the menu everywhere, but usually, they make it if I explain what’s in it: Amaretto, sugar syrup, fresh lemon juice, and egg white, then it will be fine.’
What’s your favorite lunch spot?
‘Gartine, it’s a very small place, but with the most delicious menu ever. They grow most of the products themselves and they have very good bread. Recently I had a sandwich with pea puree, an adopted chicken egg, and bacon. So incredibly delicious. And if you’re really a sweet tooth, they bake delicious cakes.
At the Laundry in the Pijp, I always take a sandwich with filet. Do you know the Laundry? Very cozy, really an asset to my neighborhood. Oh yes, and not to forget SLA. A top spot for lunch and dinner.’
And in the evening? Where do you prefer to eat out in Amsterdam?
‘If I high end want to eat, I’m a big fan of Izakaya. The cocktails are delicious, they have great fusion food and I love share dining: all small bites on the table and at the end of the evening not feeling stuffed.
Le Restaurant is also one of my favorites. The menu has about 15 small dishes that you can share. The sommelier there also comes up with fantastic wine pairings. You can taste so much love for the craft in every course. Really a recommendation.
Lately, I’ve also been very into Asian food. There’s a good Vietnamese place on Leidstraat. Café Saigon. They cook very pure, fresh, and with little fat.’
Do you still hit the dance floor?
‘I have a lot of friends who are DJs, so if I want, I can always join. The last time I really let loose was at a wedding. I don’t go to clubs that much anymore. I prefer to go to festivals. Digital was my last one. I had quite a hangover from that?’
Where do you prefer to shop?
‘I shop in bursts. I used to go to H&M and Zara a lot and would come back with 100 new clothing items. Now I prefer to spend a bit more money on one item. I love Bijenkorf, they have such beautiful brands there. Avelon, Acne, and All Saints I find very beautiful. I also like to go to the 9 streets. It’s especially nice shopping. Coffee here, lunch there, and sometimes in and out of a store.’
If you could take a plane now, where would you go?
‘Cape Town. I was so pleasantly surprised by that city. My boyfriend and I had barely landed for an hour and we were in heaven. The nature around the city is so beautiful and the food is delicious. We rented an apartment in Camps Bay. That was ideal, doing your own shopping and sometimes eating out. Yes, I would like to go back there now. But well, since we’re at it, I would also like to see Hong Kong once. I’ve never been there, but it’s said to be better than New York. Yes, let’s fly there.’
