Travel

When I go away for a weekend to another city, I always check the site first www.petitepassport.com and find the nice hotspots there. So I can't ask anyone better than Pauline Egge, founder of the site, about her favorite spots.

Which restaurant do you eat at most often?

When I have something to celebrate, I like to go to Radio Royaal in Eindhoven. The atmosphere is great, and the menu is full of delicious dishes.

Name a really nice lunch spot?

Gallito under the W Hotel in Barcelona. One of my favorite places to order a refreshing gazpacho in the summer.

And where do you like to have breakfast?

Recently I was in Australia where I had a lovely breakfast at Barry in Melbourne . I was alone, but there were plenty of newspapers and magazines to keep me entertained. And the interior is amazing!

What is a really nice spot for a first date?

Toto in Barcelona: nice bombastic atmosphere and delicious dishes. This is also the restaurant where readers email me almost weekly that they had such a great time.

And to work quietly?

If I lived in Haarlem, I think I would sit at Portrait . A new concept store. They have a long wooden table where you can work wonderfully.

If you could go away this weekend, which city would you go to (anywhere)?

Then I would go back to New York.

Where would you sleep and eat then?

Of course, I would check in again at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn. It has a nice atmosphere and you have a beautiful view of Manhattan from your bedroom. And I would just eat nicely at Reynards, the restaurant in the hotel.

How and where do you relax?

Last year I had a massage at Spaciomm of Hotel Omm in Barcelona. I started there stressed and thought: you probably can't get rid of that stress in a few minutes, but after that hour I was floating for the rest of the day. Wonderful!

Which city in the Netherlands has the nicest hotspots?

Amsterdam has the most going on, but don't overlook cities like Rotterdam (with the Pasta Kantine), Nijmegen (with the Meesterproef) and Haarlem (with Portrait) either. Where there are cool spots, you can find me.

Best hotel in your own city?

The new Nhow Hotel in Rotterdam designed by Rem Koolhaas. I heard they are working on a terrace on the fifth floor, so I need to go back soon.

And lastly, which bar gave you the worst hangover?

Now I drink very little alcohol, but the open-air bar of Papaya Playa Project in Tulum (Mexico) is one where you want to stay for hours and thus don't walk, uh stagger, back to your hut completely sober via the beach.
