Fashion

A bag (and especially its contents) says a lot more about a person than her perfume. That's why we focus on women and bags every week. Man and horse but in a different way. Since I'm not the worst, I'll kick things off.

How did the bag come to you?

This Granville from Dior belonged to a colleague of mine who works at Place Vendôme in Paris, so I already have a jealousy bordering on illness towards her. Around the corner from her office is a fantastic vintage store where she found this bag. It was donated there in pristine condition by its bag mother, waiting for a caring adoptive home. My colleague bought it on the condition that she was told whose initials C.M. were. Chiari Mastroiani (yes, yes, that's the daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroiani) was the one who discarded this bag.

I almost felt faint when I heard this. It only got better when my colleague wanted another bag and offered this one for sale. The rest is history. The bag was mine to have.

Tell me something about it

It's a real work bag, so when there are parties, premieres, and events, I arrange a babysitter for it. For the evening, it's really too big. But during the day, that's a huge plus because I can throw everything in it, even my Ibook fits in it.

How the bag came to me

I bought this bag for my mother and me together. But since my mother is quite small and this bag turned out to be a size too big, she has claimed it for my slender Chanel. I'm fine with that; I know how to find her when I need it. The bag has already visited quite a few shows. I find it ideal for fashion weeks because all your daytime gear fits in it and it still makes a fashionable statement.

Show me the contents, and I'll tell you who you are

I deliberately didn't tidy up my bag when this photo was taken because I want to give an honest picture of what I carry around. Recently, I found the payment receipt from the tax office in it that I had been looking for for weeks. And there's always an OB or a daily lens floating around. You never know when that might come in handy. Because I'm quite chaotic, it doesn't surprise me at all that I also stuffed the spare key of my car in there. That's really handy in case your bag gets stolen. Not.

Classic or rather an it-bag?

Of course, it-bags can charm me, but if I'm going to spend so much money on a bag, I'd rather have a classic because it's value- and style-retaining.

Frugality and diligence

I cherish and praise my bags, and I'm very careful with some of them. They go into the dustbag with paper stuffing after use and then into the box. Because this bag has become an upgraded work bag, I don't treat it with special care. It even just sits on the floor.

The powers of the bag

A good bag really opens doors. I once borrowed the baby blue Birkin from Maria Kooistra and have never been received so warmly in any store. It was close to them opening champagne for me in the luxury stores. Ladies, when in doubt; do it. A bag stays with you longer than a vacation and retains its value.

Heirlooms

Because I have three daughters, I need to have plenty of bags so they don't have to fight over them. Each can choose at least two. What am I saying, two? Three!
