Anne Marije De Vries Lentsch was for many years the marketing manager of Grazia and Marie Claire. For the past two years, she has been rocking the Dutch edition of Cosmopolitan as editor-in-chief. Someone who alternates between working in the heart of Amsterdam and New York must of course have a nice bag hanging on their arm.
How many bags do you have?
I had a lot. But due to a leak in my closet where I had stored them, I now only have one.
Your bag, how did it come to you?
My old bag that I had before turned out not to be theft-proof. I was somewhere and suddenly there was a strange hand in my bag holding my phone. I yanked that arm out of my bag while keeping my phone, the thief ran away, and then I had to say goodbye to my old bag. Bags without zippers are not safe enough for me. That same day, I spontaneously came across this bag. I saw it and it meets all the requirements with a special role for the phenomenon of zippers.
What is so special about it?
My laptop fits in it, my magazines fit in it, it is theft-proof, it has a short and long handle, it is blue which I have wanted for a long time. It is beautiful both inside (practical) and outside. Best of both worlds.
It is said that the contents of your bag (tidy or messy) say something about how you are doing in life at that moment. If I were to look at your bag from a psychological point of view, what do you think that would say about you?
My bag looks messy but it is not clutter that I carry. All the essentials are in there. As editor-in-chief, I sometimes have to go from one appointment to another. So that bag is like a walking closet. Slippers in, heels out, jacket one in, jacket two out, and no one sees it. My bag probably tells you that I am practically minded.
What do you always have with you?
My wallet, iPad, phone, headphones, flat shoes, the latest Cosmo, keys, gum, makeup bag, sunscreen, planner, flat shoes, and then whatever I need that day.
Do you prefer classic or more trendy?
A mix of both. Or is that not possible fashion-wise? I keep things for a long time so I often choose things that are not too trend-sensitive.
Is this bag cherished and pampered and neatly stored in a dust bag or do you throw it somewhere in a corner?
This bag is alive, I can tell you. It just came from Buenos Aires where I almost let it hang on a bike (biking through BA is highly recommended by the way).
Tell me, is it true, does a good bag really open doors?
I always look at someone's bag first so I definitely think it works vice versa.
Do you already have someone in mind who will inherit this bag one day?
I don't think that after the bag has lived with me, anyone would want it.
Which one is on your wishlist?
3.1 Phillip Lim and anything Chanel.
