Annual Nannic spectacle
Collect all hairpieces
Yesterday afternoon, Betty de Groot, colorful businesswoman from Laren and director of Nannic cosmetics, organized a lunch. She asked if I wanted to come. In a distant past, Betty and I stood at least three times a week in the same gym. I annoyingly fanatical at the front, Betty comfortably a few rows towards the door that occasionally opened during class. Exercising was one thing, having a cigarette during class was another.
No one is like Betty
Betty is the kind of woman who always surprises you. With her jokes (‘girl, I had my teeth worked on for a Mercedes’), her immensely hard work, or because I suddenly found her in a restaurant with a young child whose parents were separating, and she brought them a bit of cheer.
So Betty asked me if I would join the Nannic lunch, which seems to be an annual highlight for those present.
At 12:30 the conga line
I declined the champagne upon arrival. It was Monday at twelve o'clock, for goodness‘ sake. I was the only one, I believe. And at 12:30, there was just about to be a conga line, but the hands went up in the air. Mary Borsato was on the left, Patty Zomer on the right. Nice because Patty and I are both a bit of outsiders in this company. When the waiter asked us this time if we wanted an alcoholic refreshment, the answer was; ”fill it up.‘ There was only one way to experience this lunch, and that was to dive right in. What do you do when Corry Konings starts singing ’I get a very special feeling inside’? You sing along. And occasionally we took a sip or burst into laughter. But it was cozy, warm, and sincere, that it was.
Nannic Woman of the Year
“Someone who is beautiful inside and out. The heart and mind in the right place, eye and ear for others, standing strong for the Pink Ribbon foundation and all the good activities of the Postcode Lottery.” The award was presented by Betty to Quinty Trustfull, who was genuinely overwhelmed and tears streamed down her cheeks. For the thought of her mother, who passed away several years ago. For her father with whom she lives and whom she cherishes so intensely, for her husband and children who come first, and only then her own quite considerable career.
Hands back in the air
There was a singer named Wesley. I had never heard of him but received a CD. Then I, being a fashion girl, went around with my camera taking pictures of all the fashionable guests, snapping them and asking them about their look. For learning and inspiration.
Wise advice from Angela Groothuizen
“Don’t get too skinny,” was the beauty recipe from Angela Groothuizen. “After your forties, you have to choose between your face or your butt, and I happen to have a very big butt.” Then she turned to heavily pregnant Fabiënne de Vries. She waved away the somewhat messy situation (Fabiënne’s current boyfriend’s ex-wife got pregnant two months before Fabiënne did) saying, “That will all be fine with time. A child needs love and food, and you are going to give her that. The rest doesn’t matter. The only thing that is important; you have a baby in your belly.” Decisively supported by Angela’s index finger. Can you hear her saying it? Wonderful.
The gifts
I forgot to mention that every five minutes, nice ladies came by to give us a gift. From Hawaiian-style bracelets to blouses, to a fantastic leather-bound book resembling Sinterklaas’s book from that wonderful furniture store Timothy Oulton on the Amstelveensweg where the whole event took place. When I rode away at, goodness gracious, 3:30 PM, Jet's bike almost sank through its frame because it was so heavily loaded. And Betty? She amazed me again.
The most stylish ladies of the party
Wearing: pants from Hudson, a shirt from Zadig&Voltaire, a bag from Valentino, a scarf from Hermès, a fantastic hat without a label, and shoes from Sam Edelman. When you say Leontine, you say funky jewelry. Here they come; a bracelet with 3 small golden figures representing her children and is from www.caramel.cc The black sticks in her ears are from Johnny Ramli just like that coin ring. The letters in her ears are from www.preciousd.com
Middle finger ring www.maisonvanbelle.com , the pinky ring with diamonds is from bodes and bodes. The index finger ring with pearls is from Banjari. That and a Hermès bracelet and a rose gold Rolex make it funky, classy, and always pretty.
With a lovely blonde look, a divine tight body, and as always a unique sense of style. Her catsuit is from Barbara Bui, the jacket is vintage, and the ankle boots (“Yes, they are a bit worn, May, there is always something that isn’t quite right about me.”) she bought in Miami. A good story. And a good outfit.
Can a swimsuit go under your outfit? Why not. Especially if it’s such a colorful piece from Seafolly. The skirt is still from D&G, the second label of Domenico and Stefano, which they pulled the plug on two years ago. The shoes are from Aerosoles because they are comfy, comfy! The earrings are from Lott Gioelli. Original and girly. She just received the bracelets during lunch and they are from Disfruta La Vida Approved!
The radiant winner doesn’t need much to be the belle of the ball. Skin, hair, body. Everything is perfectly luxurious. Her jeans are from Eden Schwarz (that gives you the prettiest butt, according to Quinty. True.) Ankle boots from Colette Sol, the shirt is from her good friend Jos van Raak from the label Second Female. The jewelry on her wrist is a mix of Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Kuzzies, and the label ByMoïse, yes, the jewelry line of her daughter.
Maybe you don’t know her, but you know her work. She was the Annie Leibowitz of the Low Countries in the eighties and nineties. She is also the widow of Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. No, not the Soldier of Orange. That was his father. This Erik junior was an artist and passed away four years ago. Her most beautiful piece of jewelry is the signet ring she always carries with her. Her retro print dress is from Ruby Stella. The bracelets are from Disfruta la Vida and she just received them as a gift during lunch. She has had the boots for years and actually doesn’t remember the label anymore. “Shall we say DKNY? I think that’s such a nice brand.” Fine Patricia. I bow to your class and authenticity.
