In this SM time (by that I mean Social Media and not the perversions of E.L. James) almost no day goes by without a photo being taken. And where someone used to politely and shyly approach you and ask if they could please take a photo of you, now a mobile phone can just be pointed at you and klats, you are busted.
That’s why it’s extremely important to know how to drape yourself in a second in your most graceful pose. Because everything is a craft, and posing well is especially so, I’ve gathered some tips for you.

  1. Get inspired. Make an old-fashioned mood board and decorate it with images of celebs that you think look amazing. They usually have a signature pose like Olivia Palermo who often crosses one leg over the other or like Liz Hurley who always places one leg slightly forward to accentuate her height and immediately twists her waist to look as slim as possible.
  2. Find your good side. Ask a good friend to take a photo of both sides of your face and see for yourself which side does you the most justice.
  3. Do the Victoria. Before Victoria Beckham goes for a photo, she looks for someone who is thicker to stand next to (not very hard in her case) and then like a foal, she lets her lips flutter. This gives the most beautiful smile. Then she scrapes a foot (again, there is the resemblance to a four-legged, noble animal) a few times over the ground and places one leg in front of the other. She turns her hip in for an extra slim effect, exhales softly, and looks enchanting into the room and Vicky is ready.

Tips

  • Practice in front of the mirror. You don’t have to be ashamed. Top models do it too.
  • Don’t be shy. A boring image is nothing anyway, so you might as well make an effort with the chance that you actually look good.
  • Breathe out! Nice, such a good photo but a blue face won’t lift anyone up.
