The Waldorf Astoria is very close by
With the super deluxe Waldorf Astoria at Herengracht 542 opening its doors on May 1, Amsterdam gains a top hotel. With Jonnie and Therese Boer from De Librije responsible for the restaurant and Jan Tamineau taking care of the staff's outfits, you would think it just can't go wrong.
Just like all time favorites such as the Ritz, George V, and Beverly Hills, the Waldorf has a magical, imaginative significance. Pure luxury and indulgence, a favorite among the rich and famous.
Oh how I love it. I prefer to stay two nights in a top-notch hotel than a week in a mediocre three-star. ‘It's simple: when I go away, I want to indulge in luxury: I refuse to drag my luggage, I want curtains that can open and close at the push of a button, a mega plasma screen with free latest movies with surround sound, and a showerhead like a tropical rainforest. Just to name a few....
The average person might first explore what culture there is to sniff out during a random city trip or exotic vacation. Not me! I delve into the local hotel scene. I love stylish hotel bars (if you travel alone as a woman, it's often easier to have a drink in a hotel bar), I love surprising architecture, tastefully decorated interiors, and enjoy the scent of lavishly arranged bouquets. With the Conservatorium Hotel, the Amstel, the Dylan, and the new Waldorf Astoria, there is no excuse for the spoiled traveler to skip Amsterdam.
