Having crossed the 50 mark, is it going to be a swimsuit or a bikini? That long beach dress from Cavalli or maybe those shorts from Marni? Yes, the adult fashionista often faces a choice when it's time to celebrate a vacation. But one thing is certain: moi will also indulge in a lovely little week STG (read; St. Tropez Glamour) sniffing. And you understand, the days before departure are all about packing the suitcases, during which the necessary fashion dilemmas arise again.
It's absolutely summer and after almost three months of only living healthily on vegetables and fruit (I eat nothing that has had a father or mother, no coffee, no dairy, no carbohydrates) I am quite at a decent weight, and because I am a bit Indian, I always have a tan. But I have crossed the 50 mark (you can't see it though!) and with the passing of the years, the dilemmas arise: Can I still wear that short tunic? Those shorts, are they too short? Strapless, can that be? Or is it really too revealing?
Personally, I tend to think that Omroep Max is for really old people and I feel embarrassed (or actually: offended) when someone on the tram is willing to give up their seat for me. At the same time, I realize that it is fantastic that I still feel energetic and young at my age and feel good in my skin. It's tricky business and actually, there is no clear answer to all those fashion dilemmas that suddenly come up when passing 50. So, regarding my vacation wardrobe, I just do my own thing:
– I prefer neutral and sophisticated colors.
– Trendy neon and girly pastel shades I leave aside. Just like, no matter how En Vogue they are, extravagant patterns.
– As for the silhouette, I keep it as simple as possible. No frills or non-functional details.
– To the beach, I wear shorts with not too tight legs. Preferably in black or dark blue.
– I also feel okay in a tunic just above the knee.
– Instead of fluffy T-shirts, I feel better in capris or shorts with a shirt blouse.
– Because I don't feel comfortable showing too much skin at a certain age – I choose a swimsuit (Eres is my favorite brand).
– Always handy; a pareo. Or better yet and the hit for this summer: a kimono.
