Prevent a beauty blunder

with these tips you'll be even more beautiful

Everyone has their own beauty ritual and prefers a different trend. Nothing wrong with that, because you should feel good about yourself. So whether you prefer to go through life naturally (with a little help from foundation and primer) or you really want to create a smoky look in the morning, it’s up to you. All good. Some tricks and little hints may not be known to everyone yet. Research shows that only one in five women are aware of some simple rules. So here’s teacher Josselin with some smart tips to make it all a bit easier and prettier.

Hydrate

Nourishes the skin intensely. Nothing is uglier than foundation, concealer, or anything else settling into lines or getting a dry effect. On a well-hydrated skin, makeup stays much prettier. What you can also do is mix a drop of your day cream with your foundation, then you get a very natural effect.

Primer

Many people apply a primer after the foundation. I call that wasted money. They were invented for a reason. Apply it as a base. Primers are designed to keep makeup in place and smooth out imperfections. So don’t do it after foundation, but before.

You really don’t have to apply foundation all over your face

Okay, you don’t want to go through life looking like an oompa-loompa, so applying foundation in the right color seems obvious. And it’s of course quite easy to apply foundation all over your face. However, it doesn’t make it much more natural. Only apply it to the ‘problem areas’, where you might have blemishes or a dull complexion. This way, you keep the natural appearance of your face in balance and avoid a mask effect. You can dab some areas with a concealer to cover them up, but an overdose is not the most natural effect.

Powder overdose

It’s lovely to powder. It mattifies everything, gives a soft glow to the face, and ensures that foundation stays in place. You naturally apply it with a large brush. Just make sure you don’t have a powder overdose, because that looks very unnatural. A swipe with a large brush is often enough.

An eyebrow pencil is to put the finishing touches, not to draw a completely new shape

I know that full, thick eyebrows are all the rage right now, but if you don’t have that ‘full bush’, it’s not the intention to draw a completely new shape with a pencil. Use the pencil where it’s needed. Fill in some sparse spots and strengthen the shape. That way, it stays just a bit longer and doesn’t make your eyebrows hang on your chin during the first best autumn rain.

Eye-liner before mascara

It may look a bit strange, but first apply your eyeliner and then your mascara. This way, you can draw a much prettier and straighter line, and you won’t get holes in the line.

Lip Liner

If you use lipstick, always buy a matching lip pencil in the same color. Read carefully; the same color. We’re not in the 90s anymore where we drew a darker line than necessary. It keeps lipstick in the right place and makes a beautiful lip color even more striking.

Over-exfoliating, not quite the right way

Scrubbing is lovely and you really get a baby-soft skin in return. Too much is just not the intention, because then you remove so much from your face that you actually achieve the opposite. If you remove too much oil, for example, your skin will compensate by producing even more. So just stick to twice a week. No matter how good it feels.

Blusher and lip color should be chosen together

When you choose which color lipstick to apply, also think about your blush. Pink goes with pink, coral with coral, and red with red. You don’t want to clash. Maybe in fashion, but not in beauty.

Keep your brushes clean

Dirty brushes are an ugly sight. Only with clean brushes can you apply makeup flawlessly. There are special cleaners for brushes, but if you don’t have anything at home, you can just use shampoo. Twice a month. You’ll see that brushes will last much longer and your makeup will look just a bit prettier.
