New work-out in town

So I really hate interval training. Let alone that I do it by myself. I usually stop after five minutes. I really need someone next to me who tells me what to do. But still, I keep hating it. It is really good for you though. Maximum fat burning and your fitness and endurance go up significantly. I didn't say that exercising is always fun, did I! But now. Last Wednesday I had an incredibly cool interval training. I didn't know it existed.

This week, there is a black cube in the museum square, where they are demonstrating a new fitness workout. Reebok (of the shoes and clothing) and Les Mills (an Australian fitness organization) have teamed up The Project to start. A workout at a completely different level and in a totally different environment. And they are right, because hanging out in the gym endlessly gets a bit boring at some point, so variation can’t hurt. I hopped on my bike to ‘the next step in fitness’. I must admit I was a little tense. I always shout from the rooftops that I am so sporty, so there’s no way I would end up panting (and almost puking) in a corner after a quarter of an hour because it would be too hard.

I got a nice outfit and shoes from Reebok. Ready to start. Les Mills Junior himself (looked really fun, so good motivation) welcomed us. The cube was filled with spinning bikes and it was pitch dark. What I could still see was a kind of cinema, there was a full screen around me. The lesson started with cycling calmly to hard music. I was cycling in space. I saw stars everywhere. Already an impressive sight. The instructor led us through an endless path with obstacles. You were in a kind of roller coaster, up and down, faster, slower. Suddenly, birds flew alongside me, or a motorcycle with which you automatically started a race. I was totally in another world. I was amazed, became super enthusiastic, sweated like crazy, and in no time, 35 minutes had passed. Les Mills also offers body combat in that way. Dancing while reaching for water droplets that appear on the screens. And during a session of body balance, the sun appears with very soothing music.

This weekend, the pop-up box is still at the museum square in Amsterdam, so you can try it yourself too. Believe me, you’ll get addicted right away. It’s a shame that it’s all still in development, because otherwise, I would be on that bike weekly. The best interval training ever.
