I SEE I SEE WHAT YOU DO NOT SEE

New events on the fashion front: technological developments are getting involved with the clothes we wear. Designer and artist Daan Roosegaarde (you might know him from Zomergasten last year where he was one of the guests) was surprised by how little the fashion world actually cares about technology. Clothing is made with needle and thread and the more natural materials are involved, the better we like it. That can be different, he thought. In collaboration with a designer and a whole bunch of technical experts, he designed a dress that becomes transparent when the wearer gets excited. Que? What? Excuse me? Yes really, when your body temperature rises and your blood pressure increases, the magical substance changes to a transparent fabric, and you are practically in your birthday suit.

The Intimicy 2.0 Dress, as the special piece is called, was already presented in 2012 but Daan is now in talks with major parties like Louis Vuitton to see if it can actually hit the market. Is anyone actually wearing this? Yes, indeed, a test model was made for a wealthy woman from Los Angeles. She is married but has a lover and especially for her, Daan made a dress that at first glance looks completely normal but reacts to the voice of the lover. And no, I'm not making this up. When the lover says a certain combination of words, the dress becomes transparent. Those words are a secret, duh, Daan is contractually forbidden to ever reveal anything about it. There is now work being done on suits for men that become transparent when the wearer lies. Ideal for bankers, according to Daan. And unfaithful men? With a bit of bad luck, we will soon have to live honestly and without a dirty mind. The horror! And so you see, that Hans Christian Andersen was more progressive in 1837 than one could have ever thought.
