Balmain
When Olivier Rousteing took over Balmain two years ago, he immediately threw a huge pile of bling, glitter, and glamour onto the drawing board. Balmain was expensive, grand, sleek, and in any case, unmissable. Long slender brown legs with super short skirts and razor-sharp cheekbones and je ne sais quoi hair, that is Balmain. Or should we say ‘was’? The S/S collection was much more down to earth and relaxed. “I wanted to explore something casual and sporty. It’s less evening and more real. It’s more me,” Olivier said backstage during the show to Style.com. And to be honest, the brand seems to be taking a completely new direction. Denim! Leather! Houndstooth! Pinstripes! Checks! That’s quite different from the disco style of a year or two ago. Unfortunately, it is still predominantly unaffordable, but hey, that’s what this shopping is for.
