THE FAIRYTALE WORLD CALLED EDWIN OUDSHOORN
When I almost stumbled over a flower bed in my platform pumps, I realized that I had landed in the fairytale forest of Edwin Oudshoorn. On the last evening of the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam, the Dutch couturier presented his AW 14/15 collection in the Transformatorhuis, which was shrouded in twilight and transformed into an ‘artificial paradise’ with plants, flowers, and other flora. The audience was not seated in a grandstand but at cozy little bistro tables where a glass of champagne was ready for you. ‘This is how we would like to sit at every show,’ agreed the front row occupants.
The show opened with his muse Laura Jansen at the piano, performing her song Pretty Me in a white bridal gown by Edwin. Little figures of models then showcased a typical Edwin Oudshoorn collection that elicited many ‘oohs’ and ‘aaahs’. We saw flowing long evening gowns adorned with Swarovski crystals and feathers. Some of these reminded me a bit too much of Dancing With The Stars certain things, but the majority was enchantingly beautiful. Especially due to the insane craftsmanship that radiated from it. We saw mini dresses with embroidery and knee-length dresses with a beautiful cut. The harlequin collar made another appearance. And as Chanel showed us last week, the (wasp) waist will be an important point next season. Edwin created lovely silhouettes in his dresses with the help of undoubtedly killer corsets, but the result was to die for.
Once again, it was a pleasure to be taken into the fantasy world of Edwin Oudshoorn. In the meantime, I will do another 100 sit-ups.
