Last week I wrote to you about healthy snacks for the drinks. That doesn't mean that everything else is forbidden. On the contrary, I am now in Paris and had already planned to order cheese platters the whole weekend. With fresh baguette and a bit of salty butter. This afternoon I am having lunch at L’avenue (I really hope to run into Kim, Kanye, Olivia, Johannes, or whoever there) and I am already looking forward to the crème brûlée for dessert. And I also want to stop by Ladurée these days to have a cinnamon croissant. Well, a lot of treats and if I don't want all of this to go straight to my derrière, I am dutifully swimming laps in our giant hotel pool and my running shoes are in the suitcase. Well, something has to balance it out, but it is so worth it.
4X snacks that are not necessarily healthy,
but that you still don't want to miss
Toasted baguette with ham and truffle mayonnaise
Cut thin slices (about 1 centimeter) from a fresh white baguette.
Drizzle the slices with a bit of olive oil and place them in the oven under the grill for a few minutes.
Take a jar of good mayonnaise. Stir a bit of truffle paste into the mayo. You can buy that in larger supermarkets.
Spread the toasted baguette slices with a layer of truffle mayo and place thinly sliced ham on top. A bit of salt and pepper and you're done.
Quiche Lorraine
Here's what you need and how to make it:
5 slices of puff pastry
200 gr. smoked bacon
150 gr. grated Gruyère cheese
4 eggs
250 milliliters cream
salt and pepper
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
Let the puff pastry thaw for a moment and meanwhile grease a round baking dish with butter or oil.
Then place the puff pastry in the dish so that everything is covered. Also the sides. Prick some holes in the dough with a fork.
Let the puff pastry thaw for 10 minutes on the counter. Grease the baking dish with a bit of butter or oil.
Fry the bacon briefly in a frying pan and then distribute it over the bottom of the baking dish.
In a bowl, beat the eggs, cream, salt, and pepper together. Then mix in the Gruyère cheese and stir again.
Pour this mixture over the bacon pieces and bake the quiche for 30 minutes. Once it's done, let it cool for a bit and then cut it into small pieces.
Cheese sticks from the oven
I got this recipe from the ladies of Chickslovefood (yessss we do), just read here how to make it.
Dates with bacon from the oven
This is a super simple recipe and you will be on cloud nine when you take a bite.
Here's what you need and how to make it:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
Buy fresh dates (not those hard ones from a bag from the supermarket) and remove the pit.
Wrap a slice of breakfast bacon around it and secure it with a skewer.
Place aluminum foil or baking paper on a baking sheet and then place the dates with bacon on top.
Put everything in the oven for 10 minutes. Check occasionally and when the bacon is a bit crispy, they are ready.
