WINTER COAT NEW STYLE
I don't really like it, a winter coat. Well, the camel coat from MaxMara or that oversized Céline, but further I find the phenomenon of a winter coat quite boring. You need that parka in cold and rain but you can't make a good presence at a fashion moment with it. And it completely misses the mark over a chic dress.
A long time ago I had a coat from Patrizia Pepe with a ‘built-in’ petticoat. The top was modest gray, the bottom delightfully extravagant, making it look like I was wearing an incredibly complicated outfit. I'm a bit tired of the coat now, so I'm building my own crafts. Want to join?
- Take a blanket. Cut it in half to create a wrap. Or buy one, that works too.
- Make sure to have some nice belts. Attach a belt only at the front of the wrap. This accentuates your silhouette at the front and the back of the wrap flares out nicely. It's also warmer because the front panels are pressed against your body.
- Luxury cardigan. I'm addicted to loose cardigans but as a coat, they are still too cold. I wrap the cardigan around and hold it in place by putting a belt around it. To fend off the wind a bit, I wear a fun fur stole over it in the same color.
- Furthermore, the poncho is of course always a cheerful jacket. The only downside is that there is no charming way to take it off. Alright, here's an honest anecdote. During New York Fashion Week, Jet, Liesbeth, Peggy, and I had about three glasses of wine at The Standard Hotel. Then we went to a show that turned out to be quite hopeless. When Jet turned her head to the right and saw me sitting there in my Isabel Marant poncho, she almost peed her pants from laughing. The poncho was on backwards and inside out, so you could see the label under my chin. In this case, a boring winter coat might have been a better idea.
