STRIKE A POSE

How to become Vogue, JAN, or ELLE

For the recordings of Holland’s Next Topmodel, I traveled for two weeks with fashion photographer Dirk Kikstra and top model turned presenter Anouk Smulders. Of course, you then talk about ‘the profession’. On the plane to the location, we were laughing so hard because each magazine has its own attitude and quirks.

Join in, find recognition, and if you practice well, you can use all those poses nicely for your own fashionable Instagram. Here we go.

 So Marie Claire

Marie Claire has the slogan, think smart, look amazing. In her fashion series, Marie Claire shows a woman who is going somewhere, has a goal but also definitely keeps the fun in her life. Archetypical pose; the cheerful forward jump.

Completely Elle

Elle is urban and takes fashion very seriously. A woman from Elle is not easily impressed, so a look full of designer goods is portrayed nonchalantly cool. Archetypical pose, arm casually hanging over the head, head tilted slightly, body in a bend, and then especially looking very casually at the camera.

That is Vogue

Vogue is of course the fashion bible. Yet, a somewhat more cheerful approach to fashion seems possible. Archetypical Vogue pose. Legs crossed, arms on the hips, shoulders forward creating a V-shape with the body. A funny pout is definitely allowed here.

Typical JAN

JAN is cheerful, always fun, and a bit different. If you want a real JAN photo, you draw a moustache on your finger and make a little mustache with it. Or you fold a pair of glasses from your fingers and look cheekily at the camera. Preferably in a boyfriend-like outfit. You could easily end up at a neighborhood party, you know.
