You understand that I had to dedicate the Style Icon section today to Oscar de la Renta. He was great, but his creations were even greater. It was only natural to illustrate a dress here, but I secretly took a different path. For me, it was not a difficult choice to go for the scent of Oscar.

Oscar may have been an amazing fashion designer and Ladi Di, Sarah Jessica Parker and Amal Clooney he dressed in a beautiful creation, but he also created very special fragrances. Okay, maybe with a little help from a perfumer, but it really carried his name. And rightly so. Because the refinement and femininity that la Renta had in his designs were also captured in a bottle.

In 1977, Oscar De La Renta launched his first women's perfume. Named Oscar. His inspiration for the scent came from the gardens of Santo Domingo. The Dominican Republic, where Oscar was born. He found the Ylang-Ylang blossom so pleasant that the scent is a combination of clove, coriander, and a floral bouquet. The result is chic, elegant, floral, and above all very feminine. It immediately became a bestseller in more than 70 countries. Hopefully, it will remain so, because while la Renta may no longer be with us, Oscar certainly is.
