Finally, Zoe Karssen is a bit calm. For weeks, the city was flooded with announcements of the huge sample sale, and hundreds of screaming girls showed up. It was a great success. Is there finally time for glühwein, a Christmas tree, and family? I ask Zoe about her weekend.
Tell me, how was your week?
Busy! Always at the end of the year. We are in the middle of moving the office and we just had our Christmas dinner for the Zoe Karssen team.
When does the weekend start for you? And how?
With a vodka cola light. Although this weekend is a bit messy with work and the move.
Are you enjoying the peace a bit after the sample sale? It must have been chaos.
Yes, it was definitely chaos, but good chaos. It was two amazing days. I really enjoy seeing the girls who buy Zoe Karssen. So interesting, all those different characters.
Rihanna and Beyoncé are big fans of your brand. Tell me, do they call you personally to order something? How does that work?
Most of the time, I have contact with their stylists. They place an order for them. Not as glamorous as you think.
And what do your Saturday and Sunday look like?
Especially when it's winter, like now, I prefer to stay home with the heating on. Just chilling with Quince, my husband, and my four cats. I also sometimes go to England to see my family. I try to do this as often as possible, but it's not always easy with my schedule.
What do you read and listen to on the weekend?
This might sound a bit rubbish, but I hardly read. I also only listen to music when I'm at the gym. I really love watching movies. That's my thing.
If time and money were no object, what would your ideal weekend look like?
Especially because it's Christmas, I would arrange a trip to fly my husband and family over to New York. There we would eat burgers and look at the amazing Christmas windows at Bergdorf and Macy’s. Then ice skating in Central Park and staying in a 5-star hotel. I don't think there's anything better than New York at Christmas. The atmosphere there is so amazing.
How do you celebrate Christmas? Who's cooking?
My dad and his wife are responsible for that this year. We do the same thing every year. The whole family gets together, we eat too much and watch crappy TV. That's what Christmas is about.
Do you have a wishlist for Christmas?
I would love to have an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime experience vacation next year. I don't know where to yet, but it would be amazing and unforgettable. With my husband Quince.
And is there anything exciting on the agenda?
Well, the new year starts very busy at Zoe Karssen. We have the photoshoot for the new collection. I still have to figure everything out about the styling and the mood, etc. And quickly too. We need to have that printed and done a week before the fashion fairs start.
I am really looking forward to starting 2015 in a fresh, new office. That is very exciting and feels like a new start. We are also getting a step closer to building the brand into something amazing in the future.
What time does the alarm go off on Monday?
It depends on what kind of week it will be. Normally, the alarm goes off at 8 o'clock and I snooze until half past 8. I am absolutely, and I would never become, not a morning person.
