The 7 most inspiring fashion movies

It is August. There is, excusez, nothing on TV. I recently watched Droomhuis from broadcaster Max in utter despair (sorry Sybrand). And I also completely watched the program that came after it (something with older people and vacations that fell into the water). Time, in short, to let your DVD player hum and watch some nice fashion films. They are a) fun and b) you gain a lot of styling inspiration from them.

I made a top 8 for you. In random order, that is.

I am love

Definitely a beautiful film. It seems to be about the ultra-rich Fendi family where the lady of the house (Tilda Swinton) falls for the charms of her son's friend. At the beginning of the film, she walks around in the most wonderful Jill Sander creations, later she mainly enjoys nature in tiny outfits with that friend of her son. Fun fact: the film was shot in a beautiful villa located in the middle of Milan where Tod’s always presents its new collection during Milan Fashion Week.

A Single Man

Oh yes. Directed by Tom Ford, then it can't go wrong. The styling, the styling, the styling. Julianne Moore has never looked more beautiful (and that's an achievement) and, without doing the rest of the film a disservice, when you see the drawers of George Falconer (Colin Firth), you immediately want to tidy up your closet. Right away.

The Great Gatsby

Critics called the film a confetti cannon with a steaming soundtrack but hey, the costumes were made by Prada. So you watch it, right?

Midnights in Paris

Only film about a romantic screenwriter who stays in Paris with his extremely superficial, wealthy fiancée and her parents and during midnight wanders off to the Paris of the twenties. They stay at Le Bristol and Since Rachel played with Ryan Gosling in The Notebook and they also started dating in real life, they are still the perfect couple. That Ryan is also quite perfecto with Eva Mendes, we’ll just forget for a moment; I will always remain team Ryan & Rachel. Well, what’s extra fun is that Rachel also comes from London, Ontario! Have you ever. I keep hoping for a reconciliation., the superficial girl, wears the most fantastic outfits. Also the look of Carla Bruni (yes, Mrs. Sarkozy is also in it) and the flapper dresses of Marion Cotillard are zum haben.

Factory Girl

A delightful film about the life of Edie Sedgewick, actress, model, and style icon of the 60s. When you talk about a grand and captivating life, that makes Edie a good candidate. Rich parents, private ranch with a private school, a brother who fell into alcoholism at 15e and committed suicide at 26, another brother who was hit by a bus, and Edie herself who spent time in various clinics with severe anorexia. When she moved to New York, she became the style icon we remember.

Blue Jasmine

A fallen socialite (Cate Blanchett) who has nothing left due to a series of wrong decisions and has to move in with her very unglamorous sister. The only thing she still has? A number of great outfits and that killer Birkin Bag from Hermès that travels with her throughout the film.

Sex and the City

Part 1 then. We all found Part 2 unwatchable. Liesbeth and I never managed to reach the end of the film and we tried, you know. Multiple times. But Part 1 remains the best. Then you immediately see that there are also beautiful wedding dresses.
