The best workplaces (or study places) in Amsterdam

What a joy it is that I no longer have to struggle with a thesis, stress over an exam, or reluctantly highlight thick textbooks with a pink marker. Around me, there are still plenty of friends who are currently dozing off behind their laptops in the library. WhatsApp messages are answered late, phones are on voicemail, and grabbing a terrace must also wait a few weeks. All this because that damn thesis needs to be finished or that deadline needs to be met.

Do you recognize this? No panic, you are not alone. I can imagine that you are going completely crazy from that stuffy University Library and that supposedly studying at home really doesn't work. Too quickly, you dive into the fridge or turn on the TV.

Do you live in Amsterdam? I’ll give you some nice quiet and inspiring places where you can work. You can bet that if you sit there, you’ll be back on track in no time. Here they come:

Headfirst Coffee Roasters This new place is located on the Westerstraat. It’s a small space, but perfect for working with your laptop. Nice guys stand behind the coffee machine and make the tastiest cappuccinos to keep you sharp and awake.

Café Restaurant Amsterdam has a long reading table where you can easily spread out your laptop and books. A lot happens there (I always find that nice, I can’t concentrate well in dead silent spaces), so you have plenty to look at if you want a little distraction. For hunger, there’s a lunch menu full of goodies. The sandwich with vitello tonato or grilled vegetables and mozzarella is my favorite.

Hutspot Amsterdam on the Rozengracht.
It’s a popular large concept store and there’s always space. Plenty of outlets for your charger, and if you come early in the morning, they have delicious fresh fruit with yogurt and homemade granola. Hutspot is also perfect if you give yourself a little break. Take a stroll through the store because there’s plenty to see and shop, from nice young clothing and furniture designers.

De Sky Lounge Bar in het Doubletree Hotel next to the Central Station is really a cool place. You have the most beautiful view ever and there’s a calm atmosphere. Just be careful not to sit there too hungry because the menu is really too expensive for a day of studying. It’s nice to treat yourself to a glass of wine at the end of the day, one glass is really good for study performance.

Stanislavski at the Leidseplein is a very nice bright space, high ceilings, and large tables. The wifi is super fast and there’s a nice crowd. Also nice, the large terrace in front with a view of the always bustling Leidseplein.

Boys and girls, good luck with the exams and deadlines. If anyone feels like a little distraction, you know where to find me.
