THE HARDBODY OF ANNA DELLO RUSSO
Anna Dello Russo looks like she is in her 40s and has legs that many models would kill for. In reality, the famous editor-at-large of Vogue Nippon turns 52 this year. It is quite remarkable how good that woman – and we are mainly talking about her body – looks.
With a whole apartment dedicated to her ever-growing collection of designer clothes, it is of utmost importance for her to fit into the sample sizes she wears. But, as always, nothing comes for free. The extravagant fashionista trains herself to the bone and hasn’t touched a carb in decades. “I am Italian, so I love food – but I love fashion more”, she says with a laugh. Every day, her alarm goes off around 6:00 AM so she can be on her yoga mat by 7:00 AM for an Ashtanga yoga class, then she dives into the pool for some serious laps. This ritual takes her about 3 hours every day. Even during her vacation, she continues with this. Last Christmas holiday, for example, she enjoyed a yoga retreat in India where the first class started every day at 5:00 AM.
Besides exercise, there is of course the issue of nutrition. On an average day, ADR starts her day with a Japanese breakfast consisting of salmon, miso soup, eggs, and coffee. She does not eat meat. She mainly follows a vegetarian diet with the occasional piece of fish as an exception. “I personally love crudités. Every type of vegetable and fruit is my favorite. Just like with my hats – cherry, pineapple, and watermelon!”
If you ever get invited to dinner at Anna's, we advise you to prepare a sandwich with cheese beforehand. Or two. The fashion icon loves hosting dinner parties, but the food itself plays second fiddle. “I decorate the table with special dishes and I serve food in bright colors. For me, it is more important how the food looks than how it tastes.”
