Men, don’t look

In the 70s, we had the pantskirts, the biggest fear of every man. Guess what? They’re back. Only now it’s called culotte. Leandra Medine from themanrepeller.com’s fan, and I like the selected looks but you need damned good Saint Laurent booties, a Boy from Chanel or a PS11 from Proenza Schouler, and perhaps also an oversized Céline coat to make things look attractive.

A trend’s a trend’s a trend so I’m catching you up on six things you probably didn’t already know about the culotte.

  • Culotte means trousers looking like skirt.
  • In ages past (think King Henry III in the 16th century), the culotte were worn by men. It was a trouser that ended lower than the knee and were tied to the lower legs by use of a belt, also known as turd catchers.
  • Men from lower social classes were called ‘sans culottes’ because they didn’t wear trousers like these.
  • In the 70s, this model was called pantskirts, two years ago they were called Palazzo pants, and now they go by the name of culotte.
  • Marc Jacobs and Céline started with culottisising fashion.
  • Don’t be disillusioned. The culotte’s as unattractive for men as for women.
