SALE STRATEGY

Big News. The sale in Paris has started today. I remember my colleagues from Marie Claire International leaving the Boulevard des Frères Voisins in a state of mild panic during lunch on this fateful day to take a taxi or metro to the Bon Marché and indulge themselves in Stella, Isabel, Victoria, Donna, Paul, Joe, or whoever.
As tempting as a sale may be, it’s important to keep your wits about you. Otherwise, you’ll end up with impulse buys. So here are my 6 golden rules.
- Invest in a classic. Have you been dreaming of the Diego by Alexander Wang for a long time? Hatsekiedee, it’s now in your basket at netaporter.com for a steal (well, a steal, a steal). Or buy those shoes from Chanel, because they are also going on sale. Then you really have a good buy.
- Think about summer. Winter is almost over. Really. A true investment is the pieces you can wear again in the summer.
- Metal rocks, those bold, funky pieces are better bought at a reduced rate. Because let’s be honest, these are not keepers.
- Grunge=good, think plaid shirts, biker boots or boyfriend shoes, anything that is tough and has a bite is good.
- Choose color, summer 2014 is bursting with it. So forget subtlety and score some really bold items in this sale like the fluorescent pumps from Louboutin and Dior. I also find the sale ideal for buying bold, eye-catching shoes.
- My last tip; Would you have bought this if you had to pay the full amount? Be honest?
