Jolanda van den Berg, actress and singer is 27 weeks pregnant with her first child. The bottle of Moët is already chilled and will be drunk immediately after the delivery. She can't wait. Recently she saw the movie Wolf of Wall Street in which Leonardo DiCaprio maintains a greedy and very extravagant lifestyle. “After seeing this movie, I really wanted to drown myself in the Amsterdam nightlife.” Friends have already offered to organize an evening once the baby is born and promised her in-laws to babysit, so that will be fine. She at least has peace and time to fantasize with us about her favorite spots.
Best restaurant in town
I live near Bosboom Toussaintstraat. A lovely street to sit on the terrace of restaurant De Italiaan . I can't wait to sit there with my baby soon. I really like going to Wild Boars Javaplein in Amsterdam. The menu only features seasonal products. Last time I had beer-battered fried mushrooms with smoked mayonnaise. It was delicious. And the service is so sweet and explains all the dishes on the menu so kindly and well.
Blauw aan de Wal is a nice restaurant if you want to have a quiet meal with someone for a business meeting, for example.
Best café to have a cocktail
I think Through 74 in Reguliersdwarsstraat is really nice. That place doesn't have a real closing time, but stays open until the last customer leaves. That can be quite tricky for me. It has happened that I've said three times that I need to go home, but eventually come home at five in the morning. I also like to sit at the bar at Lion Noir and then order a Pornstar (vodka, passion fruit, and vanilla), a cocktail to lick your fingers clean.
Best lunch spot in Amsterdam
Salad bar SLA on Ceintuurbaan is my favorite. I then create my own salad and take a juice with avocado, chia seeds, and mango. Hutspot on Rozengracht has such a nice energy and a wonderfully healthy menu. Soon they will open a little café upstairs that I am really looking forward to. I am also a fan of Friday Next on Overtoom. That is a concept store where I like to work. If I need a distraction, I take a walk around the store. Nice to get inspiration for the nursery.
A weekend away
If I could choose any city, I would immediately jump on the train to Paris. Then I call Sophie (van der Stap) to see if I can stay with her for a night or I book a room at Mama Shelter or in Hotel Tiquetonne. That last one is a really nice cheap boutique hotel in my favorite neighborhood le Marais. Just make sure to book a room with a bathroom. Otherwise, you might have to shower in the hallway.
During the day I go to Le Marché des Enfant Rouges. A great food market on Rue de Bretagne in Marais Nord. In that area, there are also many nice second-hand shops. Just leave your map behind and wander around. Every time I am there again, I discover new things. Afterwards, I have lunch at George at the top of the Centre Pompidou. It is not expensive at all, but I always feel luxurious there because of the nice view over the city.
I have dinner in the evening at Restaurant Derrière. The cuisine is a mix of French and Middle Eastern. The owner comes from the area of Morocco and comes up with the most fun combinations. It is also a perfect restaurant to eat with large groups. You can order a large piece of meat or fish and put it in the middle of the table with lots of small dishes around it. The staff is also fantastically nice (which can sometimes be tricky in Paris). And oh yes, even if you don't smoke, you have to go to the smoking area.
