New York never sleeps. And the news certainly doesn't. The ordinary buzz and the high-quality New York press are working overtime without exception. This week, the talk among us New Yorkers was mainly about these three novelties on the horizon of Manhattan.
1. DAVID L: “DE VALK IS HET GEBOUW VERLATEN’.
David Letterman. The ‘king' of television hosts scored 33 years of sky-high ratings with his late-night shows. But the curtain has fallen. And this was the week of his very last show. He will be missed, was the general message to Mr. Letterman as he broadcasted his final show from the heart of New York. Famous and infamous America had a final farewell for the soon-to-be retiree. Even Barack Obama paid a last tribute.
2. HALLO ZEELIEDEN
It's Fleet Week! And that means a lot of sailors and majors at our shore! Since 1982, it has been slowly filling up with marines and soldiers of every kind around this time of year. And that means: a whole lot of men. A lot of parties. And probably also a lot of wild ladies who now have a choice. Normally, the ratio here is one to three. So; for every single lady, there are three single gents. So yes, you can't really blame them this weekend, right? Ay, ay, sir!
3. SHAKE SHACK IS OPEN
New York is the city where the tastiest burger in all of America was born: Shake Shack. By now, it has become a whole chain across the country, but in NYC, Shake Shack (strangely enough) only has two locations. One is located near Times Square, and one is near the Flatiron a.k.a. right around the corner from me. And that last one has been closed for months now. Misery among New Yorkers who prefer not to and actually never go to Times Square. But, the burger joint is open again! Oh yes!
